Henry Ruby
Lieutenant Colonel Henry Ruby:
Lieutenant Colonel Henry Ruby enlisted in the California Army National Guard in 1940 at the age of 25, driven by a sense of duty and the desire to protect the freedoms his family cherished. Demonstrating strong leadership and tactical skills, Henry became an anti-tank platoon squad leader, where he implemented key changes in his artillery unit that significantly improved its proficiency and accuracy. His aptitude for command earned him a spot in Officer Candidate School, after which he was deployed to the Pacific Theater.
In the Pacific, Henry saw combat on Morotai and in New Guinea, contributing to Allied efforts in challenging conditions. Like his six brothers, Henry answered the call to serve his country; four of them had enlisted even before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Ruby brothers, all sons of Johannes Ruby, served across various branches, including the California Army National Guard, the U.S. Army, and the Military Police. With six of the brothers deployed overseas at the same time, they each faced the trials of war, embodying a family legacy of dedication, resilience, and sacrifice to protect the freedoms they held dear.
