Emma Diel Shepard

Sergeant Emma Diel Shepard's service in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II exemplifies women's vital contributions to the U.S. military effort. She enlisted on January 26, 1943, and served in the Army Air Corps until April 20, 1944. Established in 1943, the WAC allowed women to serve in non-combat roles, including administrative, technical, and support positions within various Army branches, such as the Army Air Forces.
By taking on these essential duties, WAC members like Sergeant Shepard enabled more men to engage directly in combat operations, significantly bolstering the overall war effort.

We celebrate 260 years of history with Germans from Russia.
