Conrad John Ruby
Staff Sergeant Conrad John Ruby, at age 27, enlisted in the California Army National Guard in 1939, driven by a commitment shared with his brothers to defend the freedoms their family cherished. His proficiency in typing and organizational skills quickly advanced him up the ranks and into a position at Headquarters, where he provided crucial support for his unit. While he did not engage in direct combat, Conrad was skilled in all standard weaponry, including the Browning Automatic Rifle, making him a valuable asset to his team.
Conrad was part of the invasion force at Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines, where he played a key role in supporting Allied efforts in the Pacific Theater. Like his six brothers, he answered the call to serve; four had enlisted even before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Ruby brothers, all sons of Johannes Ruby, served across branches from the California Army National Guard to the Military Police, with six of them stationed overseas at the same time. Together, they endured the hardships of war and upheld a legacy of duty and dedication to their country, protecting the freedoms their family had come to treasure.
