Village of Kukkus on the Volga River, Jim Deis - 2017

Welcome to the AHSGR-Central California Chapter! Organized in 1971 as one of the first genealogical libraries in the San Joaquin Valley, our mission is research and to promote the history of Germans from Russia.
The sunflower symbolizes resilience, hope, and connection to the land.

We are located in Fresno, California, in the heart of one of the world’s most diverse agricultural and ethnic regions.  In Fresno, many of the Germans from Russia were known as the "Rooshins of West Fresno". They arrived as early as 1887 from the Volga River region in the former Soviet Union (Russia). By 1920, these settlers swelled the population to 8,000 followed by the Mennonites and the South Russia Germans.

Today, 350,000 descendants (if not more) are in the Fresno/Madera Metropolitan Region.

This Chapter was founded in 1971 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We fund our organization through several events, such as making and selling homemade noodles and bierocks. We welcome your participation! Our primary goal is to tell the story of our heritage regarding religious faiths, folklore, and achievements of members of our heritage in literature, the professions, the science industry, the arts, business, and all skills.

We do historical research regarding the emigration of our forefathers from Germany to Russia and genealogical research regarding the emigration of our forefathers from Russia to other countries. We welcome and challenge you to research your family story with our support.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcome your comments and suggestions.

We celebrate 260 years of history with Germans from Russia.
